The critically acclaimed pianist and singer announced that they are teaming up with the PR Symphonic Orchestra to play “Salsa Clásica” (Classical Salsa), a landmark concert combining salsa music with a classical twist.
‘This is a dream come true, it really is. Even though our music came blasting into the scene when Salsa was still a struggling genre, it still has the melodic and harmonic structures found in Western classical music, that’s why the symphony is going to make us sound incredible. I’m ecstatic. I think this is a landmark event and I’m really digging the vibes. There’s even rumors of recording the whole event. ‘Classical Salsa’: melody, harmony, euphony and a lot of masacote!’ Richie said with joy.
Bobby Cruz added: ‘We’re not redefining ourselves, we can’t, we’re Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz! We are trying to revitalize our music with a new and exciting sound. We’re tying to bridge two different crowds: the old school masacote fans from back in the day and the people who listen to classical music’
The ‘Salsa Clasica’ will be presented on Oct. 23 and 24, at 8 p.m. at the El Centro de Bellas Artes, Santurce, Puerto Rico.
Tickets are available at the center, 787-620-4444 and Ticketcenter.
