The origins of Tipica 73 came to be as a group of young musicians were looking to expand their horizons musically. At least that’s the way it was told after most left Ray Barretto’s band in 73. It was a shocking blow to the Latin music world but peace was made after all and a legacy of great music was left to us starting with this album. Típica ’73 became very successful and lasted for many years to come, releasing some of the best and most progressive albums in New York City’s salsa history. Maybe it was due to the incredible combination of talent and creativity, as well as their system of functioning as a cooperative, not only in the fair distribution of salaries, but also in an equal division of duties and labor. Sadly, as we know, the band eventually split in two.
The LP copy is extremely rare and is a must for all collectors and tropical music lovers alike.
