Willie Anthony Colón Román was born on April 28, 1950, in the Bronx of New York to Puerto Rican parents. He showed a deep interest in music as a child - influenced by his grandmother, who raised him from an early age. At bedtime, his grandmother would sing to him popular Latin songs. In 1965, Willie began showcasing his talent in the local scene. Cortijo, Tito Puente and Charlie Pamieri were the most popular artists of the time.
In 1967, he signed with the Fania label, owned by Jerry Masucci and Johnny Pacheco. Colón's partnership with Fania signified a historic moment for salsa. When singer Héctor Lavoe joined his orchestra, they became an international sensation, enjoying accolades in Panama, Venezuela and Colombia. Salsa experienced an artistic and commercial triumph during their seven years together.
This production includes early hits such as "Che Che Colé,” "El Día De Suerte,” “Borinquen,” “Juanito Alimaña,” and “Todo Tiene Su Final” - written by Willie himself and making an obvious reference to the end of their partnership.
His debut as a solo artist, Solo, was released in 1979 and included the hit "Sin Poderte Hablar."
