The Fania All Stars are the latest addition to the Fania “La Historia de la Salsa”
series. The super-group, consisting of a who’s who list of superstars from the Fania
label, was formed by Johnny Pacheco in 1968. Their meteoric rise was nothing
short of a phenomenon. The Fania All Stars were revered for their live shows that
served up a tropical mix of Salsa and Jazz with a twist of Soul.
The group featured an evolving and revolving group of members that included
Pacheco himself, Willie Colón, Rubén Blades, Héctor Lavoe, Ray Barretto, Celia
Cruz, Cheo Feliciano, Larry Harlow, Bobby Valentín and many more. These artists
and the unique shows they performed became renowned as some of the
greatest live recordings of latin music ever.
La Historia De la Salsa features some of these ‘live’ tracks from the actual shows
such as Live At The Red Garter, Live At The Cheetah, and Live At Yankee Stadium
as well as select key tracks from revered studio recorded albums such as Guasasa,
Commitment and Lo Que Pide La Gente.
Although many of the original members have passed, the recordings live on for
new generations to enjoy.
